The Trials of Blood Universe features stories surrounding the Nephilim (half angel/half demon) named Bellamy Delacroix. Bellamy, usually referred to as Bella, has always been nonbinary; though he generally uses he/him pronouns, he knows he is not quite male, but also not quite female. He is fine with this, even with the confusion it causes one of his brothers.

His world is shaken when the truth of his origins comes out without warning, and he is brought into a world of extraplanar creatures who have labeled themselves angels and demons. Though not like the Biblical versions, they took the name because humans assumed they were those creatures. He believes he is with the "good guys" (the angels) because they have painted their enemies as dark and evil as possible.

Then, the unexpected happens, and his friends turn on him when he's falsely accused of a murder. Many things take place, but it is the demons who have to wonder whether they are indeed the evil creatures he thought they were.

Chains of Blood

In the first trilogy of the Trials of Blood, Chains of Blood, the story begins with Bellamy's current life, a normal one in a not-too-distant future from today's. Then his world comes crashing down on him.
