The Nexus started as a project that quickly became an obsession. Once I fell into the world of the Nexus, I found myself lost and needing to build every aspect of it. The adventures of Alastair consumed me until I could think of little else. So, you will get to enjoy the fruits of late-night and early-morning labor!
The Nexus

When humans breached the Nexus, nothing good came of it. In search of sustainable energy, they tapped the quantum realm. The only problem was it wasn't the quantum realm they found. The substrate they believed to be unlimited energy was the Nexus- a living entity that protects five realms, one of which is Earth. When the other realms pull too close, tears appear between Earth and the four others, leading to an influx of creatures and sentient beings unlike anything ever seen before.
Alastair MacMillan knows he can fix it, but he has no real reason to, so he goes through life playing a part he finds tolerable.
Then, he meets Wicker.
And realizes the world might be worth saving after all.

The Nexus begins in the world after the Incident. The first seven books of the Nexus Chronicles are the first books in this universe. More may follow, but the first ones build the universe.
Walls (The Nexus Chronicles)

The Nexus. Few know of it, and fewer know what it really is. One of those people is Alastair MacMillan, and he knows more than most. This information has left him with one world-altering choice.
When the Nexus opened, rifts tore through the boundaries. Earth became home to creatures that could only be described as impossible, both sentient and not. They found they could not return to their home realms. From walking plants and living shadows to beings of psychic energy and pure elemental states, the four other realms intersecting Earth brought horror.
These creatures invaded Earth, sending the population scrambling to protect themselves. Many lost their lives, but those who remained built walled cities and other tools to keep the creatures at bay. Allies and enemies are made among the sentient species, some of which decide to assist humans in defending themselves.
So Alastair has to choose. His father told him before he died that he had to choose what to do with the knowledge he had given him. He could use it and maybe save the world, or ignore it and let the world die a gasping death. When he finds a reason to live, though, the choice may be easier than he imagined.
