Fantasy Romance

The world of Avern is growing and changing before the eyes of its residents. In a universe ruled by the Maker and Unmaker, things are never simple for the mortals of the realms, or even for the immortal gods.

As the world of Avern was brought to be by the Flame of Asumbar, otherwise known as the flame of life, there have been many effects on the people both mortal and immortal. The Flame of Asumbar was carried by the Eternal Phoenix, the only immortal universal creature capable of bearing such a powerful object. The effect, though, of bearing such a powerful artifact, and bring life to the world of Avern, was that the Eternal Phoenix was sundered into the component elemental parts of earth, air, water, fire, light, and dark. These elements make up everything in the world of Avern from magic to physical objects.

Magical and rife with those who want power, there are many aspects of Avern that cause suffering to those that reside there. During the Abandonment—a period of nearly one thousand years when the gods were gone—different factions rose to power and took the place of once powerful priests and clerics. The effect was that of there becoming blossoming republics as well as corrupt oligarchies and other political structures.

Venture into Avern, and find a land full of opportunities, both good and ill. Adventures abound and those who seek their fortune in the form of glory or gold walk the world. From pirates and kings to paupers and peasants, there are people of all walks of life. Enter with care, as there is no telling what will happen once you’re in Avern.

Rival pirate crews often clash when they are in each other’s territory. This is true even when some are privateers rather than pirates. When the crew of one ship turns up a very unusual creature in port one day, can they keep the secret from the rest of the world?

In the small kingdom of Slaxaria, Prince Wren was locked in a tower for years. He doesn’t know why and concentrates on his books instead. He’s always been told that his confinement to the tower is for his safety, but he never has been told exactly why. His world is turned upside down when his kingdom is taken over by a neighboring conqueror. His father and three sisters are moved to the tower, and he is taken as a pleasure slave. His captor strips him of all he’s ever been, and he finds that his father kept the reason for confinement a secret. When it is revealed, Wren is at a loss for what to do, as everything in his world has been completely changed with this revelation. Of course, this greatly amused his captor. Forces move, though, to reclaim the kingdom from the conquerors, but as the outside world moves along, Wren finds himself falling into a strange relationship with this conqueror, and he comes to realize that maybe there’s more to the world than what he’s read in his dusty books.

The kingdom of Braken is looking to shore up holes in its defense by taking smaller kingdoms as vassal states so they can protect them and themselves. Some lands they take by military might, other lands they take as peacefully as they can. Given the preference, the massive kingdom would rather have a peaceful negotiation than a war. In doing so, they approach the land of Skyland. The Skylanders agree, at least, they will agree if the Prince of Braken, Enki, takes the Vestal Prince of Skyland as a bride. Surprised, Enki tries to tell them he must have an heir, but he’s informed the prince is half-Aeriel, a race of beings that occupy an astral rift over Skyland. With the treaty formed and made, he takes his new bride home, but the mechanizations of war continue outside the kingdom, and the God King from across the sea threatens more than just the kingdom; he threatens Prince Enki’s bride.

In a world of magic, a young dragon shifter is captured by an evil organization bent on controlling True Dragons, something the world has not seen in thousands of years. Despite this, they force him through rituals meant to help summon and bind these great creatures of legend, stealing him away from his friends and family.

Searching for him, though, is a man with a great deal of magical potential, and in his search for his dearest friend, he is forced to face the fact that friendship may not be the only reason he's fighting so hard to find him.

Captain Bloodcloak sails the seas of Avern, and his mission is to be the best pirate on the Frozen Sea. That sounds hard enough, but while he searches for treasure and is running from the pursuing navies from the evil kingdoms he pillages, he's also got a very personal mission: to eradicate vampires. Along with his crew,  he takes every opportunity to pursue the vile creatures of the night that plague nearly every port they come to. Fighting ship to ship at night is not unknown to the captain, but what is unknown is the burgeoning love his first mate has for him. The question is, can he take a moment to see what stands before him despite his obsession to end the scourge of undeath?
