Chains of Blood takes place in the not too distant future. It does combine aspects of technological advancement with the powers of the various creatures. It is unknown if there are other powers in the universe, but for now, the only known planes are Earth, the Positive Energy Plane (or Heaven) and the Negative Energy Plane (or Hell). These events span all three of those planes and reflect what set ups to happen in the Chains of Blood books. Be mindful that some of this information may be spoilers if you have not read the books. Proceed with caution.

The history of the Chains of Blood Universe goes back many thousands of years with early encounters with humans happening repeatedly. These events led to them claiming the names they chose to use.

Chains of Blood Timeline

Angels make the first portal to the Earthly plane to see what lies beyond their plane. They have a basic understanding of planes, and they know more planes exist other than their own. They break through and encounter humans  in a form that is a mixture of their natural form and a physical form. They were mistaken for gods of some sort, and some humans began worshipping them as such.

~3000 BCE

Angels make contact with Demons for the first time. Demons, like their Angelic counterparts, were exploring the planes, and made  their way to the Earthly plane. This encounter did not go well, as they each recognized they came from entirely different planes and existed of the opposite form of energy. This first foray into the Earthly plane for the Demons made them wish to interact with humans even more, finding them a reliable source of negative emotion. Angels did not agree with their interest and the first weapon manifestation was performed by an angel, and quickly copied by demons.

~2800 BCE

Angels and demons both came to a grudging agreement to let humans learn and grow before they fully revealed their presence to them. Both groups were being worshipped by early peoples, and this was not what either group desired. They decided, instead, to pull back, and see if they could access other planes. Without knowing it, demons were attempting to figure out how to directly access the positive energy plane.

~2500 BCE

After years of research and study, the angels and demons both came to the conclusion that the other group's plane was only accessible through the intersection with the Earthly plane, making Earth a valuable resource to both of them. Neither group trusted the other just on basis of existing in opposite forms of energy. The thinking by both groups was that it was their mission to eradicate the other group so that they could exist in peace and without fear from the other.

~2000 BCE

Angels make an appearance in the Earthly plane, and are mistaken for Biblical angels by humans. Unlike before when they were thought to be gods of some sort, humans added their appearance to their current religion. Many of the features described of angels were the result of these positive energy planar creatures attempting to emulate human form and failing at the attempt. When humans started calling them angels, the Bright Council decided that the name was apt and appropriate considering the humans beliefs at the time. It also gave them freedom to appear on Earth without fear of being harmed by humans if they believed they were these angels. Many adopted a form with wings when they came to Earth and interacted with humans.

~1500 BCE

Demons, upon discovery of the angels returning to the Earthly plane, decide to return to. They, too, arrive in a charged climate of religious change, and because of their own attempts to mimic human bodies, they are called demons. After a lot of research into this concept, the King of their people at the time decided he was a fan of the descriptions, and adopted the name for their people. Depictions of hooved, horned, and black eyed demons were originated by their early attempts at human form.

~1400 BCE

There existed a grudging peace between the angels and demons for a while. During this time, there were small conflicts where an angel and demon would fight over humans, and they were often seen by humans in this capacity. The leaders of both groups chose largely to ignore the ramifications of these conflicts, and instead kept focus on ultimate goals: taking over the Earthly Plane for their own.

~450 BCE

After a defining battle during the Second Macedonian War between Rome and Macedon, the King of Hell appeared on the battlefield, and the leader of the Bright Council faced him. This battle was not witnessed by many due to the fact that most the humans in the conflict has already been killed. Those that did witness it, were not believed when they describe what had happened. This conflict resulted in both the death of the King of Hell and the leader of the Bright Council.

For a long few years, angels and demons recuperated from their losses on their own planes. The angels changed the structure of the leadership, no long having one person in control of the Bright Council, and sequestering the members of the Council and prohibiting them from leaving Heaven. They formed the Pillars of Heaven to do their bidding, rather than put the leaders themselves in harm's way.

~200 BCE
~15 CE

In Hell, the demons also restructured, though they went through a period of pure chaos where no one knew who was in charge. With the fall of the King of Hell, the one demon they believed no one could defeat, they had no way of knowing what to do. Demons schemed and vied for power. Eventually, a young prime demon named Xanather took over. He was a powerful prime demon, perhaps even more powerful than his father who had been the King of Hell. Xanather knew that alone, he could not control the other demons, so he initiated a battle royal among each type of demons. It was not to the death, but the victor would become a member of the council he was creating. Thus, the first Codex of Hell was formed.

~1000 CE

Xanather and the demons secretly infiltrated the Earthly plane for a long time without anyone being the wiser about it. They recruited vassals and used them to make their desires reality. They used the demon name to their advantage, finding people that would worship them and wanted power themselves. That is, until around 1000 CE when the angels took notice. Immediately, a tense situation arose, and conflicts began flaring all over the Earthly plane as the angels attempted to extricate humans from their control. This battle between them for humans went on for many years.

~55 CE

After fighting each other had decimated both their peoples, the angels and demons initiated peace talks. Xanather was not happy to find he would not be meeting with the Bright Council directly, and that only emissaries would be sent with their instructions. The negotiations nearly fell apart due to this. However, cooler heads prevailed among the Codex of Hell, and he was encouraged to listen to the offer they had. Over a year long period, the meetings happened frequently, with Xanather typically refusing to do anything the angels demanded. Eventually, toward the end of the year, Xanather had to acknowledge that his people were at their limit, and there was no benefit to continuing the war between them on the Earthly Plane. Peace was made, with both groups agreeing not to set foot in the Earthly Plane again.

Addariel becomes a member of the Pillars of Heaven once his predecessor was mysteriously killed. He knew that neither the Bright Council or the King of Hell wanted another war. However, Addariel had interest in the Earthly Plane, and he wanted to do more than interact with it. He wanted to rule it. Of course, none of the others would listen to this desire, and he knew it, so he made no overtures toward this end. Instead, he decided that the easiest way to get to the Earthly plane was to make it the only choice. That meant destroying the planes of Heaven and Hell, and the only way to do that was an outright war of the planes, one that would take place on their home planes instead of Earth. He continued his preparations for several years.

1880 CE
1925 CE

Addariel created an alliance with one of Xanather's lieutenants and most trusted demons. This demon wanted to be the King of Hell, and felt like Addariel's plans would lead him to become the one to take that position when Xanather fell. Addariel and this demon began spreading the rumor that the Angels were preparing for a conflict and amassing an army. In Heaven, Addariel began spreading the rumors that Hell was also building their army. Tensions started mounting.

2012 CE

The Planeswar officially beings when a demon infiltrates Heaven. Heaven launches attacks using a massive portal on an artificially created island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. Since the only access to Hell is through the Earthly Plane, they used information provided by Addariel who had gotten it from Xanather's lieutenant. This information allowed angelic hosts to bypass all protections and barriers between them in Hell. After they assaulted Hell, they retreated, and Hell, likewise, launched an attack on Heaven, using the very same portal location because of Xanather making an alliance with Addariel, unknowing that he was the source of the first attack on Hell.

2032 CE

After the planes of heaven and hell both fall due to overabundance of the opposite energies released in them, Elysium is established. Hell manages to hang on until a major battle takes place in Arizona, releasing a powerful explosion on the level of a nuclear blast without the radiation. They take advantage and choose to establish Hell on Earth and create Zion. A final battle takes place in the remains of Heaven with Addariel showing his prowess by destroying swaths of demons. Upon the throne of Heaven, where the Bright Council ruled from, Addariel faced off with the King of Hell. The King of Hell was caught off guard when Addariel cut him down after agreeing to be his ally. Upon his last breath, the King of Hell, Xanather, cursed him to be bound only and fully to the Earthly Plane once he fell from Heaven. As he fell, falling to Earth through the planes, he laughed. He never wanted Heaven or Hell. He wanted Earth.

Trath’tizith finds out the truth of who is really the King of Hell, and organized a contingent of demons to stand against him. This rebellion was short lived, and Trath'tizith managed to escape Zion. He was pursued and after defeating all but one of those pursuing him, he was about to fall when a mysterious blast of light eradicated the demon he was fighting. He saw an angel with blazing indigo eyes approaching, and he knew he was gone as his consciousness faded.

He awoke sometime later in a camp to find the female angel stirring a campfire, and his wounds had been healed somehow. He revealed the truth of Zion, and though she was reluctant to believe it, she eventually agreed that something that drastic had to have happened. The fault for the Planeswar fell squarely on Addariel's shoulders, and she knew that there was nothing to be done. They held knowledge now that would lead to their death, so they used what powers they could and escaped to Missouri, choosing to hide under the noses of Elysium.  The angel, Sansanvi, took the name Misty, and Trath'tizith took the name Derrick and they hid themselves well, both being powerful in their own right and having the skills necessary to do so.

They approached a Fallen Angel named Thistle. She, a master of blending the negative and positive energy of demons and angels with technology, gave them each a cloaking implant so they would not have to concentrate their energy on hiding from Heaven and Hell, and could instead cloak their features. Unbeknownst to them, though, one of the demons who Thistle had rescued was loyal to Addariel, and reported their presence there. Instead of destroying them, he chose to watch and see what happened.

Bellamy's Timeline

August 2057
2054

Love blossomed between Misty and Derrick, and in a stroke of irony, Misty was a Bearer, and Derrik a Sire, and their union produced a pregnancy. Unaware that this could even happen, they were shocked and unsure. However, when the child was born in August, they found him appearing entirely human, and other than having eyes of silverish gray, he had no traits to mark him as either demon or human. Even so, they took him to Thistle, who sealed his power by using a method implanting the seal into his bicep. He was given the name Azazel, and no human name at first, as they didn't know what would happen.

Upon discovering that the couple had birthed a Nephilim, Addariel decided that having the child raised by a demon was not in his best interest. He was fascinated by having a child born of both energies, as it was well known the chances of such a thing were infinitesimal since the energies of the parents would have to be perfectly balanced. A contingent of demons were sent, and Derrick fought them off as Misty escaped with their child. He was destroyed, and Misty left to move on with her life, knowing someone had betrayed her. She didn't go far, choosing to remain in the area because she believed it would not be expected. Soon, she became a nurse, and met and fell in love with Franck Dellacroix. By this time, she had named the child Bellamy.

February 2061

Reaching nineteen, Bellamy's seal starts to malfunction, and he is tracked down by Addariel's contingent of demons. The events of Confined by Heaven Begin.
